THERE ARE FIVE DEVELOPMENT STAGES IN BEING A SOUL WINNER.
1. A broken heart-
You can call it a burden or genuine concern for souls but whatever you
call it,
do whatever
you have to do in order to keep it.
Two truths will help you keep a broken heart. They are:
a. Meditate on people going to hell.
b. Meditate on Calvary.
2. You have to
have a plan to win your first soul to Christ. This involves training.
3. Lead your converts to make a public profession of faith at church. This is one of the greatest weaknesses in soul winning today.
4. Train our first converts to win their first soul. The fruit of one Christian is another Christian.
5. Keep at it until you have won 10 souls to Christ in a year's time.
EXCUSES WHY WE ARE NOT SOUL WINNERS
1. "I do not feel competent to win souls."
2. "I do not feel led to go."
3. "I do not feel that soul winning is all that important."
4. "You have to have a special talent to go soul winning."
5. "It does not do any good to go soul winning."
6. "Soul winning is too hard of a task to do."
7. "There is no use trying to reach them unless the Holy Spirit is drawing them."
8. "Sinners need a mountain shaking experience in order to be saved."
9. "I am only to deal with those folks whose hearts are prepared to receive the Gospel."
10. "God gives the increase; man is not accountable for the fruit."
11. "Does not God call some just to feed the sheep?"
12. "There are lots of people that we could never reach with the Gospel, so why try?"
FOUR METHODS THAT
JESUS USED TAUGHT TO WIN THE WORLD.
Matthew 28:18-20
Mark 16:15
"And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature."Luke 24:45-49
"Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, And said unto them,
Thus it is written, and thus it behooved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:
And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
And ye are witnesses of these things. And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you:
but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high."John 20:21
"Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you."Acts 1:8
"But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem,
and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth."
2. "Teach all nations"
This is not discipleship, this is winning them.
You are going to teach them four plain truths to they must know in order
to be saved.
Key Word: "WIN"
a. That they are sinners.
b. That the penalty for sin is hell.
c. that Jesus died in their place so they would not have to go to Hell.
d. that if they believe this and receive Christ, God will save him.
3. "Baptizing them"
Whose job is to get a new convert in church getting them to the place that
they get baptized?
If everyone is responsible, then we are all accountable. Key Word: "DISCIPLE"
4. "Teaching them"
Reproducing them themselves. In other words, teaching him to for somebody
else
what you just did for them. Key Word: "TRAIN'
THE PLAN TO WIN SOULS
TO CHRIST
A STEP BY STEP, 13
POINT, SOUL WINNING PLAN
Getting on the subject-ASK HIM:
1. "What is your church background?" - Now give your testimony.
2. "If you would die right now, are you sure that you would go to Heaven?'
3. "Could I take a
minute and show you how you can know for sure?"
Now, TEACH HIM from the Bible:
4. ...that all have sinned. (Romans 3:23)
5. ...that the penalty of sin is death and Hell (Romans 6:23)
6. ...that Jesus paid the penalty for his sin on the cross. (Romans 5:8)
7. ...that if he will
believe that and receive Christ, God will save him. (Rom. 10:13)
Now, HELP HIM to Receive Christ as Saviour -Have Him:
8. Bow his head in prayer- you pray and ask God to help to be willing to receive Christ.
9. Ask him to now pray
aloud and receive Christ - lead him in a phrase by phrase sinners' prayer
if necessary.
It is better if he put the prayer in his own words.
10. Ask him to take your hand if he meant business.
11. Now, you pray and
thank the Lord that he has received Christ.
Now, HELP HIM Begin to Grow:
12. Give him assurance of salvation (Use Romans 10:13; John 1:12)
13. Lead him to tell others of his decision by making it public in the local church. (Use Romans 10:11 & Matthew 10:32)
Golden Keys to Remember
1. Be Friendly
2. Stay on the track.
3. Never, Never, never Embarrass Anyone!
REASONS WHY WE DO NOT SEE CONVERTS COMING INTO CHURCH
1. We have become mechanical
with our presentation of the Gospel. We need to claim a new anointing each
time
we deal with a sinner. Even though we may know our presentation perfectly,
it is vitally important to have a
new freshness or endued of God's power.
2. We go too fast with
our presentation.
If we zip through the Gospel presentation just getting their nod and glance
here and there,
we are apt to get an artificial convert.
We must be thorough. Taking a short cut in our presentation leaves out
some of the message could
easily cause us to wind up with a profession that is not genuine. The soul-winning
message must,
I repeat, must be made clear and plain. Take time to do it.
3. We do not establish
sinner-ship.
If we do not nail down the fact that they are lost sinners on the road
to hell, we are prone to get counterfeit Christians.
We must pray and rely upon the Holy Spirit to bring this conviction as
we show them the scriptures.
As we read Romans 3:10-12, 23 we can ask him, "Sir, do you realize that
you are a sinner before God?"
If they are coming to Christ for any reason other than being lost, wicked,
Hell-deserving sinners who can saved themselves,
they most likely are not getting saved.
4. When we fail to
lead that person from "mere belief" to "active faith" in Jesus, we will
be getting false professions.
That person believes all about Christ. He accepts the facts intellectually.
He believes that Jesus died and rose again,
but it is passive belief in his head. We are trying to get him to let that
"head faith" go down to his "heart" in a
committal of himself to Christ. There is the stepping out, the releasing
of faith to make Christ his present possession.
DON'TS IN SOUL WINNING
1. Don't argue. You
never get anywhere arguing. You will put a barrier between the sinner and
yourself.
Either agree with him or go on or ask him if you can "set that question
or issue on the shelf" and come back to it later.
2. Don't talk over his head. Don't use big theological words that he does not understand.
3. Don't talk down to the sinner. That is, don't act self- righteous and pharisaical. (That you are better than he is.)
4. Don't chase rabbits. Don't get sidetracked on opinions, doctrines, sins, etc. Stay with the Gospel.
5. Don't put him on the defense. Do not criticize or condemn his religion or opinion or you will put a barrier between the two of you.
6. Don't talk too fast. Don't be like a nervous, over-anxious salesman.
7. Don't start frying fish before he is landed. That is, don't try to get him baptized and part of the church before he is saved.
8. Don't be rude to the sinner. Don't talk to the sinner in his home like the preacher would preach from the pulpit.
9. Don't rush him. If he gets this feeling, he will balk.
10. Don't embarrass him or you will certainly make him resent you, thus forfeiting your or maybe anyone else the opportunity to win him.
11. Don't salve his conscience by implying that he is a good fellow. He must be made to realize that he is a sinner.
12. Don't pray long prayers with the sinner. This tends to confuse and embarrass him.
13. Don't preach denomination. you can help him with this issue after he gets saved.
14. Don't take their excuses seriously. Don't call them a liar, but let their excuses go in one ear and out the other. Stay on the subject.
15. Don't try to get the sinner to have an experience like yours. Give him the Gospel and get him to seek Jesus, not an experience.
16. Don't allow your thoughts to dwell upon the honor of being used. Keep self out of the way and remember you are simply the instrument.
17. Don't push the sinner beyond his measure. Your part may be to so seed or to waster. The increase may come later.
18. Don't scold the sinner for not "seeing" all at once. (Not understanding the concept of salvation.)
19. Don't try to get the sinner to give up certain specific sins. Show him he is a lost sinner and needs to repeat and turn to Christ.
20. Don't talk about
home and mother too much. Don't push the point of his being saved in order
to please his mother or be a better husband,
Work rather from the truth that he is lost and dishonoring God in his sin.
21. Don't look upon any as hard cases.
22. Don't tell them
about it for awhile. Always ask them if they would like to receive Christ
now. Attempt to draw the net.
23. Don't wear out
your welcome. If you notice he is restless and keeps looking at his watch.
make your graceful exit. In doing so this you will leave the door open
for another visit.
24. Don't operate on last week's experience. Get with God in prayer and receive fresh life each day.
