Baptism and Temptation of
Christ
Matthew 3:13-17
The Baptism
of Jesus and the Being of Christ ministry. Mat
18:11.
( His Work in obeying God the Father, doing the Father's Work. Luke
2:49 )
This is
only the Beginning of His ministry not that Christ Became Man.
He
was already God-Man. John 3:16.
Christ was
of the Legal age of Thirty when He began his ministry. Luke
3:23.
Before one could
under the law Legally serve in the congregation or in service of the tabernacle.
Had to be from
the age of thirty years until the age of Fifty years.
Cp
Numbers 4:3, 23, 35, 39, 43, 47. 1 Chr 23:3
Matthew 4:1-11.
Christ
Didn't Fast Day and Night to be come weak For temptation, Christ fasted
to
become strong Spiritually. Christ ate Nothing for Forty Days and Forty
Nights.Luke 4:2
The Temptation
of The Man Jesus. If Christ had used his God given Powers He would
have sinned.
Christ
had to be tempted as A Man and failed not
Heb
2:18; Heb 4:15 .
Heb 4:15 KJV For we have not a high priest which cannot be touched
with the feeling of our infirmities;
but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
Heb 4:15 CEV Jesus understands every weakness of ours,
because he was tempted in every way that we are.
But he did not sin!
Christ temptation
was even superior to what ours could ever be. He was God.
Jesus could have
ended His temptation by the Devil by using His divinity or calling
on God the
Father. Thank you Lord for suffering as Man.
Without Christ coming
to earth incarnate as a man and dying on the cross and arising
the third day, He could
not be the saviour of man kind. Why not believe
and call upon Jesus
Name For your salvation! Rom 10:9-11
Luke 9:22; Luke
17:25; Luke 18:31-34.
Luke 9:22 KJV Saying, The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected
of the
elders and chief priests and scribes, and be slain, and be raised
the third day.
Christ is tempted in the three avenues that all mankind is tempted.
1. The Lust of the Eyes,
2. The Lust of the Flesh, And
3. The Pride of Life.
Genesis 3:1-6; 1 John 2:15-17
1
John 2:16 KJV For all that is in the world,
the lust of the flesh,
and the lust of the eyes,
and the pride of life,
is not of the Father, but is of the world.
Before
I continue further I want to make definite that the readers understand
that
Jesus Christ,
the Son of God, The LORD of the Old Testament (YHWH
) Jehovah is
the Christ
who is God in the Flesh.
He was Christ ( God ) on the day of His baptism. He was already God He
did not
have to
become a God. Yes Christ was not converted to God, He is God, was
God,
and always
will be God. Christ means the Chosen or Anointed one. His human official
name
is
Jesus. Matthew 1:23
Matt. 1:23 KJV Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth
a son,
and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being
interpreted is, God with us.
As
our study continues I may make reference to other works: Histories. Dictionaries,
Commentaries, Translations
and any other reference that is appropriate.
This is not an attempt
to attack or change any ones belief. Just an effort to being the truth
to a
better understanding
of the Gospel and a lost world's need for salvation.
An effort to put in
plain words the Truth. The Gospel of Christ. We as believers are bidden
to
study the word
of Truth. Joshua 1:8
2 Tim 2:15 KJV Study to show thyself approved unto God,
a workman that needeth not to be ashamed,
rightly dividing the word of truth.
2 Tim 2:15 CEV Do your best to win God's approval as a worker who
doesn't
need to be ashamed and who teaches only the true message
2 Tim 2:16 CEV Keep away from worthless and useless talk.
It only leads people farther away from God.
Since we only have translations
of the original we are to contend for the faith. Jude 1:3
Ones Faith should be
strong in any Translation or any reference. God's Word is God's Word.
Mat 3:13 KJV Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan
unto John, to be
baptized of him.
Mat 3:14 KJV But John forbade him, saying, I have need
to be baptized of
thee, and comest thou to me?
Mat 3:15 KJV And Jesus answering said unto him,
Suffer it to be so now:
for thus it becometh us to fulfill all righteousness.
Then he suffered him.
Facts:
1. Jesus came of His own free will to the Jordan River to be baptized
by John the Baptist. In order to accomplish all righteous.
2. John recognized the one he was preparing the way for.
3. John states to Christ that he needs to be Baptized of Christ.
This is the mark of a humble servant of God. It was also a great honor
to John to baptize Jesus. Mark 1:7-8; John 1:27.
John 1:27 KJV He it is, who coming after me is preferred before me,
whose shoe's latchet I am not worthy to unloose.
John followed the will of God.
4. In Mat. 20:22 Christ
speaks of His death as His Baptism.

5. Jesus came to fulfill all righteousness.
John is included for it was foretold.
Christ used the word us. John consented to the baptism of
Jesus.
6. John the Baptist was looking for Jesus. He was preparing the way.
Mark 1:8; Luke 3:16-17; John 1:29-30;
Cp John 1:33; Isa. 11:2
7. Christian so countless times overlook their calling by getting to the
point they
believe they can do God's work in their personal power.
They will achieve something for the reason that The word of God is commanding.
With the power of God so much extra can be carried out.
Heb 4:12 KJV For the word of God is quick, and powerful,
and sharper than any two-edged sword,
piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit,
and of the joints and marrow,
and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Heb 4:12 CEV What God has said isn't only alive and active!
It is sharper than any double-edged sword.
His word can cut through our spirits and souls and
through our joints and marrow,
until it discovers the desires and thoughts of our hearts.
This sword is not referencing to the outer edges or sides. Most pocket
knives
have only one side sharpen on both edges the other side is blunt with a
notch for
pulling the blade out. In other words the edge is sharpen in a Vee.
For a persons life to be changed the must hear the Gospel and accept Jesus.
Rom 10:17.
Rom 10:17 KJV So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the
word of God.
Rom 10:17 CEV No one can have faith without hearing the message about Christ.
So much more can be done if the believers yields
to God's power through prayer
and the leading of the Holy Ghost ( Spirit ).
First one must have Christ in their Hearts. God can and will do a
great work
through them.
To the ordinary believer, that only sees a small segment of time,
many may
think their measures are only small.
The faithful believer, that day in and day out does God's work no matter
how
small, may be doing a great work and not know it.
Example:
A young man was out in London in a snow storm, went into a Church.
The only one open on a snowy Wednesday night.
He said he knew the Lord was talking to him, because he was the
only one there. He was saved that night.
It was C. H. Spurgeon. Great works still carry on today as a result
of his
ministry. Always remember The Believer's are the ones Physically Carrying
the
Gospel to another Person.
Jesus gave the Commission to the disciples individually.
They can work where their resources a combined through the Church Heb
10:25.
Rom 10:13 KJV For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall
be saved.
14 KJV How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed?
and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard?
and how shall they hear without a preacher?
15 KJV And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written,
How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace,
and bring glad tidings of good things!
16 KJV But they have not all obeyed the gospel.
For Isaiah saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?
17 KJV So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of
God.
In the present day things still work the same.
Before anything to grow or reproduce seeds have to be sown.
There has to be someone preparing the soil, then a sower, then a reaper
( harvest ).
It then starts all over. The believers have to be made stronger through
prayer,
bible reading and study.
References are like Hearing a Good sermon.

3:4-7)

the First Adam's sin was not inherited, past on to Christ ).
Every soul has this curse passed to them from Adam.
Christ died and arose from the Dead to pay that sin debt forever.
Christ even through He was tempted as man Christ did Not Sin.
Christ died on the cross ( tree ), was buried, and by the power of
God
arose the third day.
Jesus Christ after he arose was seen of many.

the Son of God,
John 3:17, the God-man John 1:1-14; John 5:18; John 10:30; Phi 2:5-6,

With this study we will come across that Jesus Christ is God the
Son always was,
is alive today, and is God the Son in the Future.
John 1:1-34; Rev 1:8; Rev 21:6; Rev 22:13.
This is a repeated theme in the Bible.
The reality this subject matter is recurring makes it exceptionally essential.
Mat 3:16 KJV And Jesus, when he was baptized,
went up straightway out of the water:
and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him,and he saw the Spirit of God
descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:
Mat 3:17 KJV And lo a voice from heaven,
saying, This is my beloved Son,
in whom I am well pleased.
Facts:
1. Jesus was Baptized By John the Baptist in the region of Galilee in the
river of Jordan
2. The river had much water. Cp John 3:23.
John immersed as he was instructed. The subjects went downward into theater.
Some have said John could only have baptized the great numbers only by
having them stand on the bank and John passing by and splashing water on
them as He past them on the bank..
a. Jesus went up Straightway out of the water.
He first had to go down into the water
b. In Mat 3:11 John states he Baptist with
water and the one to come will
Baptize with the Spirit and authority ( fire ).
c. John ask Jesus to baptize him with the Holy Ghost and Fire.

the rest.
Baptism is not to take away sin.
Baptism is show a new life with Jesus Christ.
Died To the old Self and raised to a newness in Life.
3. Jesus had no sin. So Jesus' Baptism was not to take away sin.
The believer is baptized to mark the beginning of a new life or their ministry
as a servant of Jesus Christ and
to show the believer's connection with the Saviour.
4. Baptism for the believer is not to take away sins but rather to publish
( proclaim ) Christ and the supremacy of God in their life.
a. In Christ Baptism He satisfied the law. He and John fulfilled Righteousness.
b. Christ set an model. He identified with the believers. There has
constantly been
believers even in the Old Testament.
.
5. Christ did not turn into a God or the Son of God at this time. Jesus
Christ has for
eternity been God.
Cp Luke 2:49; John 2:1-12.
6. Jesus had reached the age of about 30 years Luke 3:23.
Under Jewish Law the Law of Moses ) the men children were indebted
to the
father's rule and worked for their fathers.
In other words Christ had fulfilled another law or became his own person.
Jesus Christ was nevertheless human and yet God. Mat 1:22-25.
In order for our sin obligation to be paid in full,
Christ had to be man and be sinless.
A believer has to be redeemed by a sinless man under the law,
yet he had to be God The father's only begotten son, born of a virgin.

7. These two Verses are powerful. Here is the record of God the Father,
God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost all in one place at the same
time, each a personality.
a.. Here is Jesus God's Son, the Spirit of God descending like a dove.
Luke 3:22 uses the words of a bodily shape like a
dove.
Dove == 2. A word of endearment,
or an emblem of innocence. Song 2:14.

The Dove reference is to Purity and gently. Today the dove
represents
the Holy Spirit.
The accounts have the Spirit touching Jesus Christ. Isa 42:1.
b. Recorded here and else ware is that Jesus Christ God the Son was standing
in the water.
c. At Jesus out coming, the beginning of Jesus ministry, a
voice from Heaven

Jesus was not just a good man He is The God-man that came in the Flesh.
The Flesh of the lowly human race. Heb 2:7-9.
Luke 3:21 states Jesus was praying.
Yes God promises if we are obedience ( sin free life ) to the Father's
will our
Prayers will be answered. Yes Heaven will be opened.

satisfaction with Jesus.
10. John the Baptist knew who Jesus was. John 1:29,35.
11. On this day Jesus in public (openly )
begin His ministry of being about His
Father's business. Luke 2:49

DO NOT BE TORmented Day and Night in the Flame
That consumes NOT.
Brimstone Gives off no Light. With caution Get some flowers of sulfur And
burn it.
The Flame is Blue and has a stifling odor
Be very careful not to get hurt or burn by the burning sulfur.
It will take a while to heal if you are hurt by the invisible blue
flame.
The fumes can take your breath.
The Fires of Hell are forever ( eternity - everlasting ).
Mat 22:13; Mat 25:30; Cp John 12:46; 2 Peter 2:4;
2 Peter 2:17; Jude 1:6; Jude 1:13.
The importance of missing the everlasting is so great it bears repeating
in
difference translation of God's Holy Word.
Rev 9:2 KJV And he opened the bottomless pit;
and there arose a smoke out of the pit,
as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were
darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit.
Rev 9:2 CEV As it opened the tunnel,
smoke poured out like the smoke of a great furnace.
The sun and the air turned dark because of the smoke.
Rev 9:2 GW It opened the shaft of the bottomless pit,
and smoke came out of the shaft
like the smoke from a large furnace.
The smoke darkened the sun and the air.
God's word Is powerful. The eternity Fires of the
Lake are real.
By the way this Shaft Has no Bottom or ending. It is going to hold
lots of Wicked and Lost Souls, Paying their on Sin liability themselves
in
the same place as their Father the Devil. John 8:44.
What is the second Death? Separation
From God and Loved ones for ever.
Rev 20:14 KJV And death and hell were cast into the

Christ acknowledged the The Trinity.
Mat 28:19. Cp Genesis 1:26; Gen 3:22; Gen 11:7.
Gen 1:26 KJV And God said, Let us make man in our image,
after our likeness:
and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea,
and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle,
and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing
that creepeth upon the earth.
Notice The use of the words used are plural: us, our.
14. The instant each believer is saved by accepting the work of Jesus Christ
and
asking Him to be Lord over their life.
One must invite Jesus to be their personal saviour.
The Holy Spirit empowers the believer to do the will of the father
and live
a life Christ would have His servants Live.
Cp 2 Cor 5:17; Rom 8:26; Rom 15:19; 1 Cor 2:4; 1 Cor 2:10-14.
The Spirit of God dwells in you. 1 Cor 3:16;

Rev 1:10; Rev 2:7; Rev 22:17.
The Scriptures concerning the Spirit can not be quoted
without the question of the
Spirit of God's work in eternal salvation and who keeps a soul saved for
all eternity.
15. In biblical times the name stood for the person's place on earth or
character.
There are people in the bible, who names were changed.
Saul's name changed to Paul. Old creature to a new creature in Christ
.
The Devil has changed name having a meaning to the name is just a
name. He attack God's word By changing the meaning of words.
This is one of the reason their are so many translations of God's Word
from the original. The Hebrew Old Testament was translated to Greek,
it was also from Hebrew to Latin and Syriac.
These ancient translations can sometimes show what the Hebrew
or Greek text said at the time they were translated. Modern translators
as well as many older Translators did use them to come to a better
understanding of the meaning of God's word.
Eph 6:12; Col 2:15.
A person still today can create a name for themselves.
Certain people both good and evil's name tell of their character and works
on earth. Whatever they did to make a name for themselves is a name
that is associated with their deeds.
16. The Heavens were opened unto Christ.
This was done while Jesus was praying.
Luke 3:21.
17. The voice from Heaven in verse 17 identifies Jesus as God's Son.
The words are repeated in the Word of God.
Mat 17:5; Luke 9:35-36; 2 Peter 1:17; Voice from
Heaven again before
His death. John 12:25-30.
The fact it is repeated, means take notice this is essential.
The phrase is also to show the nearness to God the Father's heart
His son was. Heb 1:10-13
Implies He is coequal With God the Father.
Heb 1:5-8; John 10:29-33; John 19:7.
Mat 4:1 KJV Then was Jesus led up
of the spirit into the wilderness to be
tempted of the devil.
Facts:
1.
The Holy Ghost lost no time in sending Jesus to the wilderness.
The wilderness is the territory of the serpent (Satan). The wilderness
is an
uninhabited area.
"This was likely somewhere in the outback country
of Judea which can be most
inhospitable. Temptation is a worldly and inhospitable experience. The
area
about the wilderness is covered with rocks and cliffs. The "wilderness"
is an
uninhabited area that is barren and hot. It is a difficult and often life
threatening place to be. The Lord has promised to provide streams in the
desert Isa. 35:6; Isa. 43:19)."
Commentary by Sunday school board of the Landmark Missionary
Baptist. http://www.abaptist.org
2. The Holy Spirit Led Jesus into the
Wilderness. Mark 1:13 states
wild beasts ( Animals )
were with Jesus in the Wilderness. These desert animals can kill a person.
In Mark 1:12 Mark
tells Jesus was drove or made to go to the wilderness.
The Greek word used here has a stronger word than drove. This testing was
of much importance, to the idea of must do.
Jesus had to stand up to the wiles of the Devil. Cp.
Eph 6:11
In Mat 4:1 Led up = anago¯ an-ag'-o
From G303 and G71; to lead up; by extension to bring out;
specifically to sail away: - bring (again, forth, up again),
depart, launch (forth), lead (up), loose, offer, sail, set forth, take
up.
Drove = G1544 ekballo¯ ek-bal'-lo
From G1537 and G906; to eject (literally or figuratively):
- bring forth, cast (forth, out), drive (out), expel, leave,
pluck (pull, take, thrust) out, put forth (out), send away (forth, out).
Temptations are used by the Holy Spirit to make us strong.
Luke 4:1 says Jesus Led into the wilderness.
Led = ago¯ ag'-o G71
a primary verb; properly to lead; by implication to bring, drive,
(reflexively) go, (specifically) pass (time), or (figuratively) induce:
- be,
bring (forth), carry, (let) go, keep, lead away, be open.
3.
Jesus was to be tempted as all other man. Remember Jesus is God's son.
He also was God come in the Flesh. Our Saviour had to bear the sin burden
for the whole of creation. Christ covers the sin of all believers. The
sins forgiven
are Past, Present, and Future . Mat 12:31. All sin. He even
takes away the Cruse
of Adam passed on to the human race and all of creation.
John 1:29; John 16:8; Rom 5:12; 1 John 1:7;
1 John 2:1; 1 John 3:9.
Rom 5:12 KJV Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world,
and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men,
for that all have sinned:
Rom 8:22 KJV For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth
in pain together until now.
Remember Jesus body was human at this time and until His death on the cross.
If He did not have a human body like ours Jesus could not have died on
the
cross for our sin, and the Cruse, Adam passed on to the total of creation
couldn't
have been lifted for all who make Christ Lord and master of their life.
Mark 16:19; Acts 7:56; 1 Tim 2:5
The power of God raised Jesus Christ from the grave alive. Then Jesus received
His glorified body.
God! thanks, that the God-man, Jesus Christ is Alive and is mine
connection in Heaven, setting at God's right Hand. A Place of Power
and authority. Mark 16:19; 1 Tim 2:5-6; Cp.
Genesis 41:41-44
Joseph was a type or picture of Christ.
Being man Jesus suffer as we do. Jesus begin God provided the redemption
power of eternal life. Abundant life.
4.
When a person receives a Call to be saved or serve the Lord, the Devil
and his demons
Will do everything in their powers to redirect that person paths away from
service of God,
there by depriving them of blessings and joy in the Lord.
5. Matthew's account seems to arrange the three temptations in a difference
order.
The second and third temptation are reversed. Matthew has them arranged
Chronically ( times wise, the order they happen ).
6. Each of the Four gospels present Christ in a difference office.
Matthew == Christ , The King
Mark == Christ , The Servant
Luke == Christ , The Man
John == Christ , In His
Deity. "Christ being God in the beginning.
John 1:1-4. Christ
is our Saviour. |
