Notes on Acts 2:38

 ACTS 2:37 KJV ¶ Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and
                               to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?
                38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent,
                      and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins,
                      and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
 ACTS 2:37-38
               37 When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles,
                       "Brothers, what shall we do?"
               38 Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the
                      forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

     These verse say baptized but it doesn't say any thing about water. So First is what type of baptism
is being talked about.

Next if it is talking about water baptist take heed to the following.

  Be baptized for the remission of sins  is read by many to mean  be baptized in order to obtain remission of sins.
but noticed the word translated "for" has the sense of "with reference to".
Hence the passage means and could be read,
  "be baptized with reference to or on account of the remission of sins".
The word from which "for"is translated is "eis" in the Greek.
   In Mat 3:11 I indeed baptize you with water unto (eis) repentance. Baptized unto (eis) repentance as
any one knows does not mean  baptized in order to obtain repentance.
Again it does not mean in Acts 2:38 to be baptized in order to obtain remission of sins.
Another use of (eis) is found Mat 12:41. They repented at (eis) the preaching of Jonah. at translated is from the same Greek word eis. They certianly did not repent in order to Jonah's preaching. It looks as though they repented "with reference to" the remission of sins.

Cornelius in Acts 10:43-48 received the Holy Spirit before he was baptized. Jesus said that the world cannot
receive the Spirit. Cornelius was saved before he was baptized.

 In Mat 3:15 Jesus does a work of righteousness.
In Titus 3:5 the Bible declares that we are not saved by works of righteousness.
Then  works of righteousness can not save a soul or keep one saved.
These same works of righteousness can not also have any part of God's Salvation of man's soul.
Salvation by works becomes man's salvation taking the glory away from God.
God doesn't want to share his plan of Salvation for creation with man.
Who does The saving? God
If man has a part in the Salvation of man's soul does sinful man need God?
If sinful man can save his soul then does Christ become of no effect?
Did Christ die in vain?
God is A Jealous God.
1 Cor 10:22; exodus 20:3; exodus 20:5; exodus 34:14; det 4:24; det 5:9; det 6:15 ;
ect many more verses declaring that God is a Jealous God

How does God save?
What is God's plan of Salvation of Man?

 Eph 1:7  KJV In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins,
                 according to the riches of his grace;
            8 Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence;
            9 Having made known unto us the mystery of his will,
                according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself:
