Notes On Acts 5:32
Introduction: As always when Rightly dividing God’s
Written word one needs to read more than just the verse(s)
in question. God’s word usually explains it’s self.
The reader has to just read what
is said. We are going to start with Acts 5:29
and end with Acts 5:39.
First where were the Apostles?
What were they preaching about?
What is mean by obey? Remember the Gospel is so great it cries
at souls through the indwelling Holy Ghost
( Spirit ).
A word about the use of several translations.
Men translated them all. The most widely read in the history of
the world is the KJV. If was ordered by a person that was not religious.
They picked seventy men who were more fearful of answering
to King James than scared of God. Of what was their background. They were
rewarded by The King.
If you listen to a preacher or teacher teach, one is
taking their word as accurate. Just remember they are only men. Do you
use any ones else's writings. They are written by man, some are more spirited
that others. There are authors, which allowed the Holy Spirit to flow through
them more than others. 1 John 4:1.
A preacher or teacher needs to study, read
books, listen to bible studies and sermons in order to be nourished himself.
If the farmer does not feed himself he will not have enough strength to
give food to his flock( farm animals ).
All translations have mistakes in them, Words do not translate exactly
from language to langauge.
God's original word is infallible. 2 Tim 3:16.
Study yourself 2 Tim 2:15.
The student is held ultimately responsible for what the student
believes.
More after the Translations.
Acts
5:29 KJV Then Peter and the other apostles
answered and
said, We ought to obey God rather than men.
30 The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew
and hanged on a tree.
31 Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince
and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and
forgiveness of sins.
32 And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also
the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey
him.
33 When they heard that, they were cut to the heart, and
took counsel to slay them.
34 Then stood there up one in the council, a Pharisee,
named Gamaliel, a doctor of the law, had in reputation
among all the people, and commanded to put the
apostles forth a little space;
35 And said unto them, Ye men of Israel, take heed to
yourselves what ye intend to do as touching these men.
36 For before these days rose up Theudas, boasting himself
to be somebody; to whom a number of men, about four
hundred, joined themselves: who was slain; and all, as
many as obeyed him, were scattered, and brought to
nought.
37 After this man rose up Judas of Galilee in the days of
the taxing, and drew away much people after him: he also
perished; and all, even as many as obeyed him, were
dispersed.
38 And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let
them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it
will come to nought:
39 But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be
found even to fight against God.

Acts 5:29-38 NIV
29 Peter and the other apostles replied: "We must obey
God rather than men!
30 The God of our fathers raised Jesus from the
dead--whom you had killed by hanging him on a tree.
31 God exalted him
to his own right hand as Prince and Savior that he
might give repentance and forgiveness of sins
to Israel.
32 We are witnesses of these things, and so is the Holy
Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him."
33 When they heard this, they were furious and wanted
to put them to death.
34 But a Pharisee named Gamaliel, a teacher of the law,
who was honored by all the people, stood up in the
Sanhedrin and ordered that the men be put outside
for a little while.
35 Then he addressed them: "Men of Israel, consider
carefully what you intend to do to these men.
36 Some time ago Theudas appeared, claiming to be
somebody, and about four hundred men rallied to him.
He was killed, all his followers were dispersed, and it
all came to nothing.
37 After him, Judas the Galilean appeared in the days of
the census and led a band of people in revolt. He too
was killed, and all his followers were scattered.
38 Therefore, in the present case I advise you: Leave
these men alone! Let them go! For if their purpose
or activity is of human origin, it will fail.
39 But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these
men; you will only find yourselves fighting against
God."

(Acts 5:29-39)
29 But Peter and the Apostles, answering,
said, We have to do the orders of God, not of man.
30 The God of our fathers gave Jesus back to life,
whom you had put to death, hanging him on a tree.
31 Him God has put on high at his right hand, as a
Ruler and a Saviour, to give to Israel a change of
heart and forgiveness of sins.
32 And we are witnesses of these things, and so is
the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who
keep his laws.
33 But when these words came to their ears,
they were cut to the heart, and had a mind to put
them to death.
34 But one of the Sanhedrin, a Pharisee named
Gamaliel, a man of learning in the law, of whom
all the people had a high opinion, got up and made
a suggestion for the men to be put outside for a
little time.
35 And he said to them, Men of Israel, take care what
you do about these men.
36 For before this there was Theudas, who said he
was someone important, to whom about four
hundred men gave their support: he was put to
death, and his band was broken up and came to
nothing.
37 After this man, there was Judas of Galilee, at the
time of the numbering, and some of the people
went after him: he was put to death, and all his
supporters were put to flight.
38 And now I say to you, Do nothing to these men, but
let them be: for if this teaching or this work is of
men, it will come to nothing:
39 But if it is of God, you will not be able to overcome
them, and you are in danger of fighting against
God.

Acts 5:29-39 NLT
29 But Peter and the apostles replied, “We
must obey God rather than human authority.
30 The God of our ancestors raised Jesus from
the dead after you killed him by crucifying him.
31 Then God put him in the place of honor at
his right hand as Prince and Savior. He did this
to give the people of Israel an opportunity to
turn from their sins and turn to God so their
sins would be forgiven.
32 We are witnesses of these things and so is the
Holy Spirit, who is given by God to those who
obey him.”
33 At this, the high council was furious and
decided to kill them.
34 But one member had a different perspective. He
was a Pharisee named Gamaliel, who was an
expert on religious law and was very popular
with the people. He stood up and ordered that the
apostles be sent outside the council chamber for
a while.
35 Then he addressed his colleagues as follows:
“Men of Israel, take care what you are planning
to do to these men!
36 Some time ago there was that fellow Theudas,
who pretended to be someone great. About four
hundred others joined him, but he was killed,
and his followers went their various ways. The
whole movement came to nothing.
37 After him, at the time of the census, there was
Judas of Galilee. He got some people to follow
him, but he was killed, too, and all his followers
were scattered.
38 “So my advice is, leave these men alone. If they
are teaching and doing these things merely on
their own, it will soon be overthrown.
39 But if it is of God, you will not be able to stop
them. You may even find yourselves fighting
against God.”

Back in verses 21 we are
told following the instruction of an angel of the Lord Peter was to go
speak about the Lord in the Temple. The high priest called the council
and all the senate of the children of Israel together. This second time
they were reminded they have been told not to teach in Jesus name.
Peter very fearlessly spoke in verses
29
We ought to abide by god rather men.
He goes on to enlighten them that ye slew and hanged Jesus on a
cross.
The next verses are the Gospel. The sinner, which is living in our
day, helped slew Christ on the cross.
Christ rose and is high-ranking. Read verse Acts
5:31.
Does Christ or baptism give forgiveness of sins?
Christ paid the ultimate price.
The apostles for themselves witnessed these things.
The believer in the present day has the witness in them.
[Bible in Basic English] ( 1 John 5:10-13 ) 1965
1 John 5:10 He who has faith in the Son of God has the witness in
himself:
he who has not faith in God makes him false,
because he has not faith in the witness which God has given about his Son.
11 And his witness is this, that God has given us eternal life, and
this life is in his Son.
12 He who has the Son has the life; he who has not the Son of God
has not the life.
13 I have put these things in writing for you who have faith in the
name of the Son of God,
so that you may be certain that you have eternal life.
Peter told them about the Holy Spirit coming to them, which obey.
John 3:18 KJV He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth
not is condemned already,
because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
1 Cor 15:1-11 this is the Gospel.
Do you believe? If you believe you will be obeying.
When one believes their parents are their mom and daddy the person,
the child, obeys Their parents.
Obey ==[Grk. 3980] peitharcheo (pi-tharkh-eh'-o)
from a compound of 3982 and 757; to be persuaded by a ruler, i.e. (genitive
case) to submit to authority;
by analogy, to conform to advice:--hearken, obey (magistrates).

3. To submit to the direction or control of.

Gamaliel Speaks and give counsel to take heed.
He warns about two other who made a declaration on their own. The
two were not of God so their ministry came
to naught. This is another of the difference in a religion
which is Christ centered and religion that leaves God
out or is part God and part man. Centered in the finished work of
God’s plan of Salvation. The salvation of man’s soul, it leaves man out.
There is no baptism or works that saves or adds to God’s plan.
Eph 2:8-10 WNT
Eph 2:8 For it is by grace that you have been saved through faith;
and that not of yourselves. It is God's gift, and is not on the ground
of merit--
9 so that it may be impossible for any one to boast.
10 For we are God's own handiwork, created in Christ Jesus for good
works which He has pre-destined us to practise.
New testament in Modern Speech By Richard F. Weymouth
Gamaliel gave sound advice. This advice
still works today. If it is not of God it will come to naught.
If a person, church, pastor, teacher or other witness doesn’t stay
centered in Christ their ministry will come
to naught. They will still have the God given Grace of the
salvation of their soul, God gave them. The joy and fellowship will be
gone. It can be so bad the Devil causes them to believe they have lost
their salvation.
Question who does the saving?
Who is in control?
[Bible in Basic English] ( 1 Cor3:15 ) 1965
1 Cor 3:15 If the fire puts an end to any man's work, it will be his loss:
but he will get salvation himself, though as by fire.
Who is in control?
Is man in control?
Did man create everything?
Did man create anything?
Is man greater than his maker?
Job 38:1 KJV Then the LORD answered
Job out of the whirlwind, and said,
2 Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge?
3 Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee and answer
thou me.
4 Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the declare, if
thou hast understanding.
5 Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath
stretched the line upon it?
6 Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner
stone thereof;
7 When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted
for joy?
8 Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it brake forth, as if it had
issued out of the womb?

Luke tells by the power of the Holy Ghost. What the word of God
does. Verse Acts 5:33
The Gospel when preached in the power of the
Spirit convicts or enrages.
Cp Heb 4:12 WNT
Heb 4:12 For
God's Message is full of life and power, and is keener than the sharpest
two-edged sword.
It pierces even to the severance of soul from spirit, and penetrates
between the joints and the marrow,
and it can discern the secret thoughts and purposes of the heart.
In verse 39 Gamaliel
warns they could be fighting against God.
Acts 5:32 has nothing to do with a
person losing their salvation. It just backs up what I have always said.
If you are saved you have a story to tell. If you can not tell what Christ
has done for your soul you need to do some soul searching. You can know
you have eternal life.
There is not any guest work You can know about your salvation. If
you don’t have the assurance that your soul is
safe and secure in Jesus. One needs to make things right with God,
your maker
[Bible in Basic English] ( 1 John 5:10-13 ) 1965
1 John 5:10 He who has faith in the Son of God has the witness in himself:
he who has not faith in God makes him false,
because he has not faith in the witness which God has given about his Son.
11 And his witness is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this
life is in his Son.
12 He who has the Son has the life; he who has not the Son of God has not
the life.
13 I have put these things in writing for you who have faith in the name
of the Son of God,
so that you may be certain that you have eternal life.
By believing in the name ( authority ) . In other
words Jesus earned the power to give this dying world, the saving
work Christ did on the cross and he lives today so you can have
eternity.
If you can have eternal life today how can it be eternal if man
puts conditions on the salvation of your soul and keeping yourself saved.
If man has to be baptized or join the church to be saved man has a part
in their own salvation. The Truth is God does the saving.

[Bible in Basic English] ( 1 John 14:6 )
1965
John 14:6 Jesus said to him, I am the true and living way: no one
comes to the Father but by me.
It is that simple, just let Jesus into your heart. Then Jesus
will let the Holy Spirit do the rest.
You have to make him Lord and Master. Give you life to Jesus.
[Bible in Basic English] ( John 10:26-30

John 10:26 But you have no belief because you are not of my sheep.
27 My sheep give ear to my voice, and I have knowledge of them, and
they come after me:
28 And I give them eternal life; they will never come to destruction,
and no one will ever take them out of my hand.
29 That which my Father has given to me has more value than all;
and no one is able to take anything out of the Father's hand.
30 I and my Father are one.
[Bible in Basic English] ( Romans 10:8-14
) 1965
Rom 10:8 But what does it say? The word is near you, in your mouth
and in your heart: that is, the word of faith of which we are the preachers:
9 Because, if you say with your mouth that Jesus is Lord,
and have faith in your heart that God has made him come
back from the dead, you will have salvation:
10 For with the heart man has faith to get righteousness,
and with the mouth he says that Jesus is Lord to get salvation.
11 Because it is said in the holy Writings, Whoever has faith in
him will not be shamed.
12 And the Jew is not different from the Greek: for there is the
same Lord of all,
who is good to all who have hope in his name:
13 Because, Whoever will give worship to the name of the Lord will
get salvation.
14 But how will they give worship to him in whom they have no faith?
and how will they have faith in him of whom they have not had news?
and how will they have news without a preacher?
