Notes on Gal 3:25-27
It does not say water baptism .
What it say is Baptized into Christ.
verse 27 of the NIV and ISV says clothed yourself with Christ.
Very interesting into basic English translation. It says who where
given Baptism into Christ.
They either say Put on Christ Or Clothe yourself with Christ. If
it was Water it would dry up
and could not use the expression put on or clothe with Christ.
When you need a Coat for the outside when it is cold you either
clothe yourself for the cold weather
or you put on your coat. You can not clothe yourself with water
or put on water.
The idea is to be immerse, submerged in Christ.
Gal 3:25 KJV But after that faith is
come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.
26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.
27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
Gal 3:25 NIV
25 Now that faith has come, we are no longer under the supervision of the
law.
26 You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus,
27 for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves
with Christ.
Gal 3:25 ISV But now that this faith
has come, we are no longer under the control of a guardian.
26 For all of you are God's children through faith in Christ Jesus.
27 Indeed, all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves
with Christ.
[Bible in Basic English] (Galatians 3:25)
25 But now that faith is come, we are no longer under a servant.
26 Because you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.
27 For all those of you who were given baptism into Christ did put on Christ.
It is very Lovely that in order to help us understand the translation
better God allowed for there to be
several translations of His word.
Paul in Galatians was writing concerning Christian unity. Jews, Greek,
Gentiles, Male And Females
all became one in Jesus Christ,
Gal 3:20 KJV Now a mediator is
not a mediator of one, but God is one.
21 Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid:
for if there had been a law given which could have given life,
verily righteousness should have been by the law.
22 But the scripture hath concluded all under sin,
that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe.
23 But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the
faith which should afterwards
be revealed.
24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that
we might be justified by faith.
You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.
The word "baptize" means
to plunge, submerge, dip, immerse.
And old trick to understand something is to substitute the known
written meaning of the word into
the place of the word.
After the substitute is in place reread the verses or phrases.
Much like leaving out what is in between comma's or parenthesis.
We will need to have the known meaning of the word not what one
might thing the meaning of the word is.
A person is surprised when they go to the Dictionary of English
language or a Dictionary of the bible
and see the true meaning of the word..
Take Verse 27 and it would read:
"For as many of you as have been baptized,
that is submerged or dipped into Christ, have put on Christ."
Many would want it to read "as many as have
been baptized into water have put on Christ."
Of course one can tell that water baptism is not meant. It
doesn't say water baptism.
The Verse needs to be read at what it says.
What is meant is the baptism or submersion
into Christ, not submersion into water.
Col 3:3 Our lives are hid with Christ
in God.
2 Cor 5:17 If any man be in Christ,
he is a new creature.
What does baptize (plunge, submerge) into Christ mean ?
Answer: It means to become a child of God by faith
in Christ Jesus see Gal 3:26
We are immersed into Christ by faith.
The principle to understanding verses of the Bible is to read
them as they are then read them again.
Down through the years words meanings chance.
That would be a good study some day.
