Notes on Mat 25:1-13
Introduction: Since Matthew chapter thirteen
Christ has been using parables to teach his disciples about the
kingdom of heaven. This is the mysteries of the kingdom of God. The kingdom
of Heaven is that
period from the day of Pentecost ( Acts 2:3 ;Acts
2:17; Acts 2:33; ) to Christ's
Second return.
1 Thess 4:15 .
The reason Christ gave was so he could teach His disciples in the company
of nonbelievers.
1 Cor 2:14-16. As one reads the following
scriptures it needs to be kept in mind who the characters
are. They need to be identified. In the KJV and NIV they are translated
as virgins. Which is by
knowing the manners and customs of the time they probably were virgins.
This choice of words does not correctly tell anything about them. A two
year Girl would be a virgin.
The Greek words say that they were most likely bridesmaids ( maids in attendance
or maids in
waiting.) They certainly were not the bride or brids. She is not mentioned
anywhere in the verses in
question.
There is only one bride ( the church -- believers saved during the Age
of Grace—
the church age that ends at the rapture. 1 Thess
4:15-18.) Of course Matthew has established the
Kingdom of Heaven refers to the Church age. From the day of Pentecost to
Christ second coming.
Oil usually in the bible represents the Holy Spirit.
A word about the use of Several translations. They are all translated by
men. The most widely
read in the history of the world is the KJV. If was ordered by a person
that was not religious. They
picked seventy men who were more scared of King James than scared
of God.
They were paid by The King. If you listen to a preacher or teacher teach,
one is taking their word
as correct, Just remember they are only men.
Do you use anyones else's writings. They are written by man, some are more
spirited that others.
There are authors which allowed the Holy Spirit to flow through them more
than others. 1 John 4:1
All translations have errors in them. God's original word is infallible.
2
Tim 3:16.
Study yourself 2 Tim 2:15.
The student is held ultimately responsibly for what the student believes.
WHY SO MANY TRANSLATIONS?
For two important reasons.
First, The Bible was originally written
using 11,280 Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek words, but the typical English
translation uses only around 6,000 words. Obviously, nuances and shades
of meaning can be missed, so it is always helpful to compare translations.
Second, we often miss the full
impact of familiar Bible verses, not because of poor translating, but simply
because they have become so familiar! We think we know what a verse says
because we have read it or heard it so many times. Then when we find it
quoted in a book, we skim over it and miss the full meaning. Therefore
we have deliberately used paraphrases in order to help you see God's trust
in a new, fresh ways.

Mat 25:1 KJV
Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins,
which took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom.
2 And five of them were wise, and five were foolish.
3 They that were foolish took their lamps, and took no oil with them:
4 But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.
5 While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.
6 And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh;
go ye out to meet him.
7 Then all those virgins arose, and trimmed their lamps.
8 And the foolish said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps
are gone out.
9 But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there be not enough for us
and you:
but go ye rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.
10 And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came;
and they that were ready went in with him to the marriage: and the door
was shut.
11 Afterward came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us.
12 But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.
13 Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the
Son of man cometh.
Mat 25:1-13 NIV
1 "At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins
who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom.
2 Five of them were foolish and five were wise.
3 The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them.
4 The wise, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps.
5 The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy
and fell asleep.
6 "At midnight the cry rang out: `Here's the bridegroom! Come out to meet
him!'
7 "Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps.
8 The foolish ones said to the wise, `Give us some of your oil; our lamps
are going out.'
9 " `No,' they replied, `there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead,
go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.'
10 "But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom
arrived.
The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And
the door was shut.
11 "Later the others also came. `Sir! Sir!' they said. `Open the
door for us!'
12 "But he replied, `I tell you the truth, I don't know you.'
13 "Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the
hour.

A Story about Ten Girls
1 The kingdom of heaven is like what happened one night when ten girls
took their oil lamps
and went to a wedding to meet the groom.
2 Five of the girls were foolish and five were wise.
3 The foolish ones took their lamps, but no extra oil.
4 The ones who were wise took along extra oil for their lamps.
5 The groom was late arriving, and the girls became drowsy and fell asleep.
6 Then in the middle of the night someone shouted, “Here’s the groom! Come
to meet him!”
7 When the girls got up and started getting their lamps ready,
8 the foolish ones said to the others, “Let us have some of your
oil! Our lamps are going out.”
9 The girls who were wise answered, “There’s not enough oil for all of
us!
Go and buy some for yourselves.”
10 While the foolish girls were on their way to get some oil, the
groom arrived.
The girls who were ready went into the wedding, and the doors were closed.
11 Later the other girls returned and shouted, “Sir, sir! Open the door
for us!”
12 But the groom replied, “I don’t even know you!”
13 So, my disciples, always be ready! You don’t know the day or the time
when all this will happen.

Cp Vers Ps 85:8 with verse 3
If you noticed in The CEV bible translation
they used Girl instead of virgin.
They used Groom instead of Bridegroom.
In the time frame Jesus was living in a Girl
that usually was not married was a virgin.
This is from Strong’s.
Virgins --[Grk.
3933] parthenos (par-then'-os)
of unknown origin; a maiden; by implication, an unmarried daughter:--virgin.
Bridegroom -- [Grk.
3566] numphios (noom-fee'-os)
from 3565; a bride-groom (literally or figuratively):--bridegroom.

Story of the Ten Bridesmaids
1 “The Kingdom of Heaven can be illustrated by the story
of ten bridesmaids who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom.
2 Five of them were foolish, and five were wise.
3 The five who were foolish took no oil for their lamps,
4 but the other five were wise enough to take along extra oil.
5 When the bridegroom was delayed, they all lay down and slept.
6 At midnight they were roused by the shout, ‘Look, the bridegroom is coming!
Come out and welcome him!’
7 “All the bridesmaids got up and prepared their lamps.
8 Then the five foolish ones asked the others,
‘Please give us some of your oil because our lamps are going out.’
9 But the others replied, ‘We don’t have enough for all of us. Go to a
shop and buy some for yourselves.’
10 “But while they were gone to buy oil, the bridegroom came,
and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the
door was locked.
11 Later, when the other five bridesmaids returned, they stood outside,
calling, ‘Sir, open the door for us!’
12 But he called back, ‘I don’t know you!’
13 “So stay awake and be prepared, because you do not know the day or
hour of my return.

One of the first rules of bible study is
read the verses several times and in difference translations if possible.
Yes read the verses being studied. Next if needs to look over the
verses before and after the text in question. Always make sure the verses
are in context.
As in any study of the Word of God the
student must seek the understanding honestly through the Holy Spirit and
the truth ( Jesus Christ John 14:6 ; John 1:14-17;
John 8:32 ).
God is self-revelation if one will let
him. 1 Cor 2:14-16. Pride becomes a
problem if one lets that enter the study. One must remove all prejudice.
The believer needs to come the God not only with a humble mind, but with
an open mind. There is Great danger in approaching a subject with
preconceived ideas. Yet many seekers come
to a Bible with their minds already made up.

As one reads verses Mat
25:1-13 one find out this is another parable. Then shall the Kingdom
of Heaven
be likened. The use of parables makes in effect a form of
illustration.
A Parable is an earthly picture of a spiritual truth. Mat
13:10-13.
Verses 11-13
reveal the truth of this parable. Christ is telling His disciples to always
be ready.
Mat 24:43; 1 Thess 5:2-4; 2 Peter 3:10; Rev 3:3; Rev 16:15.
The word virgin
should have been translated bridesmaids or maidens
.
[Bible in Basic English] (Matthew 25:1)
1 Then the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins, the friends of the
bride, who took their lights
and went out with the purpose of meeting the husband.
Mat 25:1-13 NLT
1 “The Kingdom of Heaven can be illustrated by the story of ten bridesmaids
who took their lamps and
went to meet the bridegroom.
Holy Bible, New Living Translation, (Wheaton, IL: Tyndale House Publishers,
Inc.) 1996.
Everyone thinks of the church as a
virgin. In fact the bride (the church) is never mentioned .
As the parable goes the bridesmaids are not of great important.
A bridesmaid carries the flowers, carries the
bride’s Train, and any other need both ceremony and none ceremony.
The point at which they come into play is when
the bridegroom comes for His bride. His purpose is to fetch His
bride, not to fetch the bridemaids they are to be ready.
The date for the marriage is usually fixed
some time ahead. May be the fact He came at midnight was the
end of an age and the beginning of a new time ( age).
We know Christ was telling about the age of the
church.
These virgins as the KJV and NIV translates
it are not the Bride of Christ. Therefore they are not Church
members as some may say. Some try to say because some
ran out of oil that there is the faithful and the ones
that did not work (unfaithful.) The wise was in the bride
of Christ and the foolish got left out. Some say they
lose their salvation, others say the unfaithful lose out as
to being in the bride of Christ.
Again these are bridesmaids They are not the bride.
Christ only has one Virgin bride. 2 Cor 11:2; Eph
5:27.
1. The bridegroom came for the
bridsmaids to go get His bride.
2. The church had been taken
out. 1 Thess 4:16
3. The church age is the only
dispensations every believer has the indwelling Holy Spirit.
Joel 2:28-29; Acts 2:17-19; Acts 10:45; Cp Isa 44:3;
4. The Marriage is after the Rapture. Rev 19:7-9
5. Israel is the unfaithful
wife. Cp Jer 3:1; Jer 3:20; Ez 16:32
Ten virgins. Probably the usual
number on such occasions. Some say the number is of no meaning.
The number of five means Grace. Some believe this is the saved during
the tribulation. Others Believe
these are the ones saved after the rapture.
The fact is the door shut. 2
Peter 3:15 God has a point of no return. There is no reason
for pray for the dead.
At death you choice before death can not be changed.
Mat
8:22; Luke 9:60
Christ is telling about souls which are
not ready for Christ. There are many pastors that present an I don’t
care attitude. I did not say they did not care just there
does not seem to be any joy in their telling the story
about Jesus. When a believer tells about Christ there should be
a show of joy. Every one should see the beam of light in the believers
life. Mat 5:16
If this reader is not saved by the blood of Jesus Christ you
need to accept His finished work before the cut
off date. If you are saved start praying for that friend which
is lost. Then find the chance to tell this person what
Christ has and is doing in your life.
When I was working as a mechanic I became friends, and he
was customer, of this old Assembly of God
retired Preacher. Bro. Anderson. During the first year I kept waiting
for the chance to ask him about his soul. Finally the day came for him.
He stopped by the Freeman Ford in Mammoth Springs AR. I was under a truck
which was too big for the shop building. This dear man of God came over
to me. We were away from the others in
the shop. He, one could tell was nervous. We talk a bit then he
said I have a question to ask and I don’t want you
too take it wrong. At that point I though I would just ease things
a bit. I asked him if he wanted to know if I died
tonight did I know where I would Go. For that point we had a great
friendship and fellowship.
There is nothing
like having a friend gets upset at you for asking about their soul. When
you lead them to
Christ they will be very thankful. Start by telling them you are
doing this because you care.
Mat 28:18-20 CEV
18 Jesus came to them and said: I have been given all authority in
heaven and on earth!
19 Go to the people of all nations and make them my disciples.
Baptize them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit,
20 and teach them to do everything I have told you. I will be with
you always, even until the end of the world.

The believers make up the visible and invisible church.
Visible Church is made up of Baptized
souls that confess ( say ) they are Christians.
Whether saved or not.
The invisible church is any one saved
during the age of Grace. Church age . past, present, and future. As living
believers living in the flesh can not see the heart of each believer.
This is what James was expressing in his book,
James. Only by seeing the works can the world assume that one is
saved. Saying one is Christian is one thing, being saved is another. Is
Christ Lord and Master of your life.
Christ gave the commission the each
disciple ( believer ). The disciples were to pass their belief on to other
souls and make other believers. They were to immerse the souls in
the Gospel. 1 Cor 15:1-11. The Gospel is carried
forward in the world by each believer. Each believer was given the responsibility.
The Church was not a
living organism at the time Jesus gave the commission to the disciples.
The spread of the Gospel is up to each Christian not the Church. The believers
everytime one soul is saved hands off the Gospel to another soul or
Group. What happen to eunuch? He carried the Gospel to his home
land.
When a new church is started the believers extend it
a hand. Either by meeting themselves or supporting others. Mat
18:20; Heb 10:25. Great work for Christ is accomplished when
a Church works together.
Acts chapters 1 & 2. It
is one of the greatest joys of being a believer is when a church you are
part of works with
one purpose the spread of the Gospel of Christ.
God’s plan is for the church to work together.
The church is not to hire a preacher with the rest of the members setting
back doing nothing.
Mat 18:20 KJV
For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in
the midst of them.
There is strength in numbers.
Romans 10:9-13 CEV
9 So you will be saved, if you honestly say, “Jesus is Lord,”
and if you believe with all your heart that God raised him from death.
10 God will accept you and save you, if you truly believe this and
tell it to others.
11 The Scriptures say that no one who has faith will be disappointed,
12 no matter if that person is a Jew or a Gentile.
There is only one Lord, and he is generous to everyone who asks for his
help.
13 All who call out to the Lord will be saved.
