Notes on Mat 6:23

Introduction:  This is a verse many use for showing that our salvation is insecure. One can be in agreement
that our salvation is insecure if man has a part in that work of salvation.
The number one question one should ask is who does the Saving of man's soul? Of course the Salvation of man's
soul is entirely of God. Through the finished work of Christ on the Cross of Calvary and God raising Jesus
from the Grave. It then become God’s Salvation of man's soul. With the Salvation of man’ssoul being a
complete work of God one can rest assured that God has their soul safe and secure for all eternality. John 10:27-30

There are many translations of the original using many difference manuscripts. In an attempt to simplify the
understanding several translations will be used. Please keep in mind they are only a translation. The Word of God
was written in Hebrew, Aramaic , and GreekIn the past years the King James Version is the most widely used, more reference materials have been written using the KJV of 1769.

It was translated by men. It is easier for many people to see how other translators translated that verse in
question than to go through the original language.  Some of the same people that would use a commentary
and not use another translation. Other people will set under a teacher or preacher time after time will never use
a study bible or any other study book. Which is a lesser of all of the evils take someone's else's word all of the
time or check that MAN or WOMEN teaching. All commentaries and Good study bibles have a preface. These prefaces tell why they did the work the way they did it. Never take only one writer or preacher's word Check it out with the word of God. Cults get started that way. The bible is the basic of all belief. When a group loses their freedom to think there is danger of someone trying to control their thoughts (minds).
2 Tim 2:15  KJV tells the reader the study themselves. Not to relay on someone else.
I did not say that there are not many Good God fearing Churches that are teaching, preaching, and leading
souls to meet Jesus Christ as their personal Saviour. A preacher and teachers should work as if they are
going to leave that work. When it comes time for that worker for Christ to leave that work, their pupils are trained
to stand on their own with conviction..
It should continue as if that worker was still there. If one has a ministry they should be training soul to
continue the work. A human being is not going to live physically forever. Yes Jesus paid the price for out eternal
life with Him.

your whole body will be full of light.
23 But if your eyes are bad, your whole body will be full of darkness.
If then the light within you is darkness,
                                                                                how great is that darkness!
24 "No one can serve two masters.
Either he will hate the one and love the other,
or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other.

21  For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."
22  "The eye is the lamp of the body. So if your eye is healthy,
your whole body will be full of light.
23  But if your eye is evil, your whole body will be full of darkness.
Therefore, if the light in you is darkness,
                                                                         how great is that darkness!"
24  "No one can serve two masters.
For either he will hate one and love the other,

You cannot serve God and riches!"
25  "That's why I'm telling you to stop worrying about
your life-what you will eat or what you will drink-or
about your body-what you will wear. Life is more than food,
isn't it, and the body more than clothing?
26  Look at the birds in the sky.
They don't plant or harvest or gather food into barns,
and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.
You are more valuable than they are, aren't you?
27  Can any of you add a single hour to your span of life by worrying?

                                                              Mat 6:21-27 NLB
21 Wherever your treasure is, there your heart and thoughts will also be.
22  “Your eye is a lamp for your body. A pure eye lets sunshine into your soul.
23 But an evil eye shuts out the light and plunges you into darkness.
If the light you think you have is really darkness,
how deep that darkness will be!
24 No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other,

You cannot serve both God and money.
25  “So I tell you, don’t worry about everyday life—
whether you have enough food, drink, and clothes.
Doesn't life consist of more than food and clothing?
26 Look at the birds. They don't need to plant or harvest
or put food in barns because your heavenly Father feeds them.
And you are far more valuable to him than they are.

23  But when your eyes are bad, everything is dark.
If the light inside you is dark, you surely are in the dark.

25  I  tell you not to worry about your life.
Don't worry about having something to

Yet your Father in heaven takes care of them.

                                                 Finally  the KJV
Mat 6:20 KJV But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven,
where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt,
and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
22 The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single,
thy whole body shall be full of light.
23 But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness.
If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness,
                                                                                   how great is that darkness!
24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one,
and love the other; or else he will hold to the one,
and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
25  Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life,
what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body,
what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat,
                                                                                    and the body than raiment?
26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they
reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly
                                                                                   Father feedeth them.
Are ye not much better than they?
27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto
                                                                                    his stature?
[Bible in Basic English] (Matthew 6:23)
But if your eye is evil, all your body will be dark.
If then the light which is in you is dark, how dark it will be!

These Verse in Matthew Chapter 6 are still part of the sermon on the mount.( Beatitudes ).
In order to have bliss one needs to understand how to live. Christ is doing the speaking in theses scriptures.
Successful people usually have an ordered life. They set priorities in their lives.
During Christ time and before, people took it that the more wealth they had the more God was favoring them.
Many people build bigger barns but have their treasures on earth not in heaven where it counts.
A fire could happen and burn the barns with the treasures stored in them.
A storm could come and blow the barns down.
Christ was warning them to put their hearts goals in heaven. When a soul has taken care of the treasures of
the soul in heaven, they will never fade away. God is able to keep that which He has promised.
God can not keep that which man does. Every thing that man does is corrupt.
It will Corrupt, Man’s Self (his) Righteousness, it is not enough.
There are ways that shape a souls directions and out look on life. The eye is one of the inputs into The human body. Christ uses this eye to show how the mind must be clear in its thinking. If the Eye is disease or sick they do not see clearly. As a person gets older starting around forty years old they begin to need Glasses to see better.
One does not see things as clearly. Some people are color blind, colors are not the same. Others Read was as saw.
Of course in the Bible Light resents the truth and righteousness. Since Light with
Shades of darkness Puts forth the idea of Sin. The more darkness the more sin their is in ones life.
I live in North Central Arkansas, about seventy mile west is a national park called Blanchard Springs Cravens.
You enter through a building where one accesses an elevator that takes you down seven stories. The park has guides. The Caverns has lighted paths as the guides with miners lamps lead the groups through the Cave. At one point there is set up is a set of  bleachers they ask for you to set upon.
Once every one is seated the guides let you know that they are going to turn the lights off. This is an experience ever human should experience. In experiencing this one understand why Christ used light and darkness to
illustrate what he was talking about. If only we as believers could all experience this we would go out telling other souls about Christ we might be more successful.  Total darkness is total separation from God. As my wife and I set there with the  lights off, not any lights any where. The eye will adjust to light, they can not adjust if there is no light, it got very lonely as I set waiting for the to turn the lights back on. I could not move.
Just thanks about how Hell ( the lake of fire and brimstone ) is going to be. Brimstone burns without a visible
flame or giving off light..
As a believer lets more sin into his life the further he gets away from God. Sin causes believers to lose that fellowship with the Lord, the joy of the Salvation of your soul. Some go so far that they get the feeling they have
lost God’s Salvation of their soul.
If believers are to achieve the bliss of their soul their goals has to be as looking through a single Eye. The Jews and the Gentiles understood what Christ was talking about. In some of the pagan Religions it was taught that the eye was the entrance to ones soul.
As humans, the race tends to worry about tomorrow. The human race puts more faith in material things. The believers future is in heaven that is where the soul needs to secure their treasures.
God provides for the birds. The soul of man is more important if your faith is what it should be the believer
should learn to Give it to someone great than us. Jesus is saying that God will take care. We have to be willing to walk through the doors God opens for us. There are times that man gets so entrusted into the materials of this
world man forgets God.
God has never forgotten man. If man does not accept the substitute Jesus Christ, God has to turn His back on that soul.

1 Tim  2:4 KJV Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

                                                                    1 Tim 2:3-7 NIV
3 This is good, and pleases God our Savior,
4 who wants all men to be saved and to come to
                                                                                       a knowledge of the truth.
5 For there is one God and one mediator between
God and men, the man Christ Jesus,
6 who gave himself as a ransom for all men--
the testimony given in its proper time.
7 And for this purpose I was appointed a herald
and an apostle— I am telling the truth,

[Bible in Basic English] (1 Timothy 2:4)
Whose desire is that all men may have salvation and come to the knowledge of what is true.

The following is from the CEV
                                            1 Tim 2:4-8 CEV
4  God wants everyone to be saved and to know the whole truth, which is,
5 There is only one God, and Christ Jesus is the only one who can bring us
to God. Jesus was truly human, and he gave himself to rescue all of us.
6 God showed us this at the right time.
7  This is why God chose me to be a preacher and an apostle of the good news.
I am telling the truth. I am not lying.
God sent me to teach the Gentiles about faith and truth.
8  I want everyone everywhere to lift innocent hands toward heaven and pray,
without being angry or arguing with each other.

The Gospel of Christ is one of Freedom. Some religions of the world teach that if you don’t convert to their religion that they are to kill them ( no choice).
God through the work of Christ gives each soul a choice.
Heaven ( A place of eternal bliss) or
Hell, the lake of fire ( A place of eternal torment ).
We are taught to love our enemies, not to declare war on them.
Others are just ways of life.
Christ died and arose the third day and is alive today.
All that God asked is to trust the Finished work of Christ His only born Son that became a man.

                                                1 John 5:9-13 CEV
9 We believe what people tell us. But we can trust what God says even more,
and God is the one who has spoken about his Son.
10 If we have faith in God’s Son, we have believed what God has said.
But if we don’t believe what God has said about his Son,
it is the same as calling God a liar.
11  God has also said that he gave us eternal life and that this life comes to us
                                                        from his Son.
12 And so, if we have God’s Son, we have this life. But if we don’t have the Son,
                                                      we don’t have this life.
                     Knowing about Eternal Life
13 All of you have faith in the Son of God, and I have written to let you know
                                                        that you have eternal life.

If you are not secure with God and / or have not accept God’s Gift. Romans 6:23
Do it before it is to late.

The will of God may lead us on a winding road that doesn't make sense, even to the most mature mind. But when the way gets puzzling, we can still trust in the omniscience of God. He knows the end from the beginning, and we can trust His character, knowing that His plans are aimed at accomplishing the best goals.

What Is A Saint?

A young boy about nine years old went with his parents to Europe one summer. Part of their tour was visiting the great old cathedrals of the past. As he would visit cathedral after cathedral he saw the massive stained glass portraits of the disciples and of other saints. He was so impressed as he stood in these great empty halls looking through the beautiful stained glass windows.

Upon return, when asked by his Sunday School teacher, what about the great churches of Europe what did he like the most, and what was his definition of a saint, he thought for a moment and he said, "I loved the sense of awesomeness and the hugeness of who God must be. And what is a saint?" And as his mind went back to those massive beautiful stained glass windows, he said, "A saint is a man the light shines through." Jesus said, "Let your let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven." (Matt. 5:16)
