Redemption
Introduction: The all included understanding
and including Theme of redemption is dealt with in over
150 passages of The Holy Bible. There are at least a dozen Hebrew
and Greek words used. The term Means
to deliver by paying a price, in such a way as that person
or thing cannot again be sold.
Bought Eternally for a price. Brought by the Redeemer. He
has to be a Kinsman.
The Price was Jesus Christ On the Cross and the fact he rose the
Third day and Living and now sets at the
Father’s right hand.
1 Cor 15-11
Redeemer
Heb. goel; i.e., one charged with the duty
of restoring the rights of another and avenging his wrongs.
(Lev. 25:48-49;
Num. 5:8; Ruth 4:1; Job 19:25; Psalms. 19:14; Psalms 78:35, etc.).
This title is peculiarly
applied to Christ. He redeems the sinner from
all evil by the payment of a ransom (q.v.).
Redemption
the purchase back of something that had been
lost, by the payment of a ransom. The Greek
word so rendered is _apolutrosis_, a word occurring nine times in Scripture,
and always with the idea of a ransom or price paid, i.e., redemption by
a lutron (see Matt. 20:28; Mark 10:45). There are instances in the LXX.
Version of the Old Testament of the use of _lutron_ in man's relation to
man (Lev. 19:20; Lev 25:51; Exodus. 21:30;
Num. 35:31-32; Isa. 45:13; Prov. 6:35),
and
in the same sense of man's relation to God (Num.
3:49; Num 18:15).
There are many passages in the New Testament which represent
Christ's sufferings under the idea of
a ransom or price, and the result thereby secured is a purchase
or redemption (cp. Acts 20:28; 1 Cor. 6:19-20;
Gal. 3:13; Gal 4:4-5; Eph. 1:7; Col.
1:14; 1 Tim. 2:5, 6; Titus 2:14; Heb. 9:12; 1 Pet. 1:18-19; Rev. 5:9).
The idea running through all
these texts, however various their reference, is that of payment made for
our redemption.
The debt against us is not viewed
as simply canceled, but is fully paid. Christ's blood or
life, which he
surrendered for them, is the "ransom" by which the deliverance of
his people from the servitude of sin
and from its penal consequences is secured.
It is the plain doctrine of Scripture that "Christ saves us neither by
the mere exercise of power, nor by his doctrine, nor by his example,
nor by the moral influence which he exerted,
nor by any subjective influence on his people, whether natural
or mystical, but as a satisfaction to divine justice,
as an expiation for sin, and as a ransom
from the curse and authority of the law, thus reconciling us to
God
by making it consistent with his perfection to exercise mercy toward
sinners"
(Hodge's Systematic Theology).

of man was first started by Satan
The craftiness of the serpent led them to sin, and they then became ashamed
of their

(see v. 7). Did God really say. . . ? The question and the response changed

from the guilt and penalty of sin 1 Peter 1:18-19.
X. The Holy Spirit with
its power delivers from the dominion of sin, basis on the power of Calvary.
Romans 8:2; Gal 5:16
XI. Kinsman redeemer. Isa 59:20
The
Book of Ruth is a wonderful story of a redeemer Boaz. Ruth a Gentile was
married to a Hebrew
that had died in a far land.
The goel, or Kinsman-Redeemer,
is a beautiful type of Christ.
1. The kinsman redemption was of persons, and an inheritance of things.
Lev 25:25; Lev 25:47-48; Gal 4:5 Eph 1:7,11,14
2. The Redeemer must be a kinsman, a near relative who was willing.
Lev 25:48; Lev 25:49; Ruth 3:12-13; Gal 4:4; Heb
2:14-15.
3. The Redeemer must be able to redeem. Lev 25:26;
Ruth 4:3-6; Jer 50:34; John 10:11,18
4. Redemption is effected by the goel paying the just demand in full.
Lev 25:27; 1 Peter 1:18-19; Gal 3:13; Exodus 14:30;
Romans 3:24
5. In the Old testament God is presented as a Redeemer, Psalms
19:14; Isa 41:14; Isa 48:17
A. One of the most famous passages is “I know that my redeemer liveth”.
Job 19:25
B. Other passages speak of Christ our Brother, Isa
8:18; Gal 4:4; Heb 2:9-15
C. He was able and willing to redeem the lost, Heb
10:4-10; Mat 18:11; Luke 19:10.
D. Sold under sin, Romans 7:14
E. He paid the price with His own blood, John 10:11,
18; Acts 20:28; 1 Peter 1:18-19.
XII. Redeemer shall come to Zion
The time when the "Redeemer shall come to Zion" is fixed, relatively, by
Romans
11:23-29
as following the completion of the Gentile Church. That is also the
order of the great
dispensational passage, Acts 15:14-17.
In
both, the return of the Lord to Zion follows the out calling of the Church.
XIII. Redemption, "to deliver by paying a price."
Redemption, "means to deliver by paying a price."
The
N.T. records the fulfillment of the O.T. types and prophecies of
redemption through the sacrifice
of Christ.
Christ
death is said to be a redemption or ransom paid to the Holy demands of
God for the sinner
and
to free the sinner from just condemnation.
An interesting fact that a discrimination word “for” meaning, “instead
of” or “on behalf”,
is used in
every passage in the New Testament that mention the death of Christ’s death
as a ransom
appears,
Mat
20:28; Mark 10:45; 1 Tim 2:6.
What is the
necessary penalty of Sin? The Death of Christ for every sinner.
Romans 4:25; 2 Cor 5:21; Gal 1:14; Heb 9:28
The completed
truth is set forth in the three words which are translated redemption from
the
Greek.
1. agorazo, "to purchase
in the market." 1 Cor 6:20; Rev 5:9
The underlying thought is of
a slave-market. The subjects of redemption are "sold under
sin" Romans 7:14 but are,
moreover, under sentence of death Eze
18:4; John 3:18-19; Romans 3:19; Gal 3:10,
and the purchase price is the blood of the Redeemer who dies in their stead
1 Cor 6:20; 1 Cor 7:23; 2 Peter 2:1;
Rev 5:9; Rev 14:3-4; Gal 3:13; 2 Cor 5:21;
Mat 20:28; Mark 10:45; 1 Tim 2:6; 1 Peter 1:18.
The man in his sin is said to be under the sentence of death John
3:18-19; Romans 6:23.
2. exagorazo, "to buy out of the market." The
redeemed are never again to be exposed to
sale; to remove from future sales. Gal.3:13:
Gal 4:5; Eph.5:16; Col.4:5.
Giving the indication that redeemed is once for all. Once saved always
saved.
3. lutroo, "to loose," "to set free by paying a price"
John 8:32; Gal 4:4-5; Gal 5:13; Romans 8:21;
Luke 24:21; Titus 2:14; 1 Peter 1:18.
Lutrosis carries the same Idea as lutroo Luke
2:38; Heb 9:12
(lit. to make redemption, Gk. epoiesen lutrosin, Luke
1: 68) and deliverance" (intensive
form, apolutrosis) used commonly to indicate release of a slave (Luke
21:28 Romans 3:24;
Romans 8:23; 1 Cor 1:30; Eph.l:7; Eph 1:14; Eph 4:30; Col.1:14;
Heb.9:15; Heb 11:35).
Redemption is by sacrifice and by power. Christ paid the price, the Holy
Spirit makes
deliverance actual in experience Romans 8:2;
Romans 8:18-23.
A time of Giving back to the rightful owner of all things coming. Mat
19:28; Acts 3:21
4. In Christ’s sacrifice He bore our sins forever. Isa
53:7-12 Here Christ is predicted.
More scriptures where Christ bore our sins forever.
John 1:29; 1 Cor 5:7; Eph 5:2; Heb 9:22; Heb 9:26;
Heb 10:14
5. Many views over look the fact that the death of Christ was the offering
for sin that satisfied
God’s require for the offering. While in The Old Testament the animal offering
could only
cover sin in the sense of delaying the time of righteous judgment.
6. The ideal of redemption includes:
A. The purchase
B. Removal from sale
C. The ransomed soul is given complete freedom through the death
of Christ.
D. By the Holy Spirit is the application of redemption applied.
7. In the redemption, the slave could not own any person or thing as long
as he was a slave.
The redemption had to be done by a near kinsman. The process had to be
bought by the
redeemer. There was not any other thing, Baptism or Holy Works that could
buy the person
or thing. The picture of a redeemer is that it is of God. Not God and man.
Or Man's self-
righteousness. God has the power to redeem. God has the Power to purchase
in such a way
that he can never be sold again. The sinner is said to be sold under sin
already. This is the
reason he is under the bondage of sin. Sin makes you of your father the
devil. John 8:44
XIV. The description of God as Redeemer Is stressed in the following:
1. Isa 41:14; Isa 43:14; Isa 43:48; Isa 63:16 Here God is
described as the one who would
redeem men from bondage.
2. This idea emphasizes the concept of “purchase” or “buying back”.
In the story of Ruth
Boaz became her “redeemer” Ruth 4:1-6
The complete book of Ruth is a great love story of a Redeemer.
XV. Other Biblical Words that have the similar connotation:
1. ransom
2. atonement
3. propitiation.
XVI. Are you bought with a price?
Have you Come up with the Wage for your Salvation?
Have you figured out the price of your Salvation?
Can you buy your Salvation?
Can you buy a part of your Salvation?
If you have to keep you salvation then you are buying a part of your salvation.
Is God willing that any should perish? 1 Tim
2:1; 2 Peter 3:9
Are you willing to trust yourself for the salvation of your Soul?
Are you willing to trust yourself for the security of your Soul?
Do you know where your soul will spend eternality if you died this moment?
If you buy a new Lawn mower from Sears would you want some
one that only worked on
Wizard Lawn mowers to tell you how to make the Sears mower to last.
Would want a Manual from
Wizard to use in servicing a Sears Craftsman mower? No.
Would you just trust someone's word or would trust the manual on
how to care for your new Sears mower.
You would use the manual at its word. You would learn the
terms that are used in the manual.
To understand the manual, one has to understand what they mean by
the words and terms that are used.
Most manual because of federal law, if the product
is to be sold in another country the instructions have to be in that countries
Languages. The manual is not any good if you can not read the manual and
understand what it says.
God is a Live.
Jesus lives as an intercessor for us.
Heb
7:25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost
that come unto God by him,
seeing he ever liveth to make intercession
for them.
If you do not know Jesus as you personal saviour accept him today.
Romans 10:9-13 NIV
That if you confess with your
mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised
him from the dead, you will
be saved.
10 For it is with your heart
that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you
confess and are
saved.
11 As the Scripture says, "Anyone
who trusts in him will never be put to shame."
12 For there is no difference
between Jew and Gentile the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses
all
who
call on him,
13 for, "Everyone
who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved
